Feb Fri 2024
Recently, in Yama Village, Wanmipo Town, Baojing County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, the first batch of morel mushrooms in 2024 welcomed a bumper harvest.

Villagers were harvesting the tender morel mushrooms with small knives in greenhouses orderly distributed along the road at the rural revitalization industry base of Yama Village.

It takes about 90 days for morel mushrooms from its planting to harvesting, with a short planting cycle and quick results. They are usually planted from November to March of the following year.

In recent years, Wanmipo Town has made efforts to cultivate morel mushrooms according to the local conditions to boost the income of village collectives and villagers through industrial transformation and upgrading. It has solved the employment problem of surplus rural labor and contributed to the revitalization of local industries.

Now, the morel mushroom industry in Wanmipo Town has developed well.

“The base has a planting area of mushrooms of over 90 mu (6 hectares), with 165 edible mushroom greenhouses distributed in Yama Village, Bamao Village, and Yayu Village. There are a total of 55 mu (about 3.67 hectares) of morel mushrooms and more than 35 mu (about 2.33 hectares) of other fungi such as shiitake mushrooms. The yield of morel mushrooms per mu (about 0.067 hectares) will be more than 250 kg. At a market price of 200 yuan per kg, the average income per mu (about 0.067 hectares) can hit about 50,000 yuan, and the cumulative income of village collectives can reach 100,000 yuan. In addition, we have offered jobs to more than 4,000 local residents, enabling them to achieve employment at their doorstep,” said Zhou Hailin, head of the base.
